A theme throughout in her studio, and perhaps a personal philosophy:
My favorite theme throughout all our stories is this idea I’m calling “designing life.” Everyone here is capable of lots of different things. But instead of doing things because they seem practical or because they’ll pay the bills, we’re are all making calculated efforts to let a.) what we care about and b.) how we work best be the things that take the lead. We are designing the lives we want to lead by living and working where we’re happiest on projects that call to us. Happy = productive. One student privately shared that by hearing we’ve had success following our hearts and our guts, she has more confidence to do the same. What more could I ask for?
I met Jessi and her partner and husband Creighton — by accident — on the street outside my house years ago, then again, when we worked together in 2009. Since, every instance has felt part to be of this philosophy. Thanks Jessi. What more could one ask for?
