Behind-the-scene writing secrets from NBC’s The Girlie Show, which is the show-within-a-show that provides the sit for 30 Rock:

For starters, the reality requires more logic and less hysteria. “We try and think of it as a workplace comedy that has weirder people and a slightly different dynamic in terms of how people are allowed to behave,” continues Carlock [30 Rock show runner], who would be the Pete Hornberger character to Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon if the show were real life. “But sometimes we are just writing about the writing room. It does start to eat its own tail and you have to step back and ask yourself, ‘Can this possibly be interesting to anyone else in the world?’”
