Being asked to speak with constraints is always calming. Just like I was never good at design or creative writing exercises with too much freedom — “Just write about anything!” was a frightening imperative — and the thought of spending days on end with blank sheets of paper gave me nightmares. As Michael Bierut said so well, “I feel like I’m a doctor and I can’t just practice medicine on myself, so I need patients…”
I couldn’t refuse Tina’s offer then to give a talk at next week’s CreativeMornings:
CreativeMornings is a monthly morning gathering of creative types. Each event includes a 20 minute lecture, followed by a 20 minute group discussion. The gathering begins at 8:30am with the topic presentation starting at 9:00am and everyone taking off for work at 10am.
